How to Load a Price Gun (Without the Jams)

By the Label Mark-It team · Updated

Short answer: Loading most hand-held price guns follows the same steps: open the cover, drop the roll in so the labels face the right way, thread the backing under the guide and around the drive, close it and squeeze a few times to feed. Check your model's manual for the exact path.

General steps

  1. Open the label cover or roll holder.
  2. Place the roll so the labels come off the bottom facing out.
  3. Peel a few labels off the start of the backing.
  4. Thread the backing through the guide and over the drive wheel.
  5. Close the cover and squeeze until a label feeds out.

Why guns jam

  • Labels that don't match the model.
  • The roll loaded backward.
  • Backing threaded outside the guide.
  • Old labels with dried or oozing adhesive.
  • An empty or dry ink roller.

Keep it running

Store labels somewhere cool, change the ink roller when prints go faint and keep the right labels on hand. Most jams go away once the labels match the gun.
