1-Line vs 2-Line vs 3-Line Price Guns

By the Label Mark-It team · Updated

Short answer: A 1-line price gun prints a single line, usually the price. A 2-line gun adds a second line for a code, date or department. A 3-line gun gives room for price, item code and date. Pick by how much info the shelf needs.

1-line guns

The workhorse. Price only, quick to set and quick to use. Grocery, convenience, hardware and dollar stores live on these.

2-line guns

Price on one line plus something else on another: a date, an item code, a department number. Handy for stores that track markdowns or rotate stock.

3-line guns

For when the label has to carry more: price, item code and a date. Common in back rooms, warehouses and stores with tighter inventory control.

Labels have to match

  • Each gun takes labels sized for its print band.
  • A 2-line gun won't run 1-line labels well, and the other way around.
  • Always match the label to the gun brand and model.
